Dr. Mickey J. Golden, DVM
Dr. Golden was born and raised in Tallassee, Alabama, just a short distance from Montgomery. He grew up on what he describes as an “Old MacDonald Farm,” almost identical to the popular children’s song. And as the song goes, on this farm he had cows, pigs, goats, turkeys, chickens, quail, ducks, geese, rabbits, and guinea fowl, but only a single horse named Sugar. One of his earliest memories is of helping raise an orphan calf named Betsy after finding her standing close to her deceased mother who had been struck by lightning. As he got older, he would often need to help baby calves, baby goats, and baby chickens get back on their feet and on their way to being well. It was at this time he realized and began to strengthen the love of caring and helping animals who were ill or injured. As he was growing up, Dr. Golden’s fondest “patients” and pets were: Sweetheart, a Dachshund mix; Little Bit, a Pomeranian-like stray who adopted the Golden family; Shep, one of the most wonderful German Shepherds to ever live; and Helmut, a German Shepherd who showed unending loyalty and devotion to Dr. Golden and his family.
Dr. Golden attended Reeltown schools from first grade until high school. In 1979, he received his Bachelors in Animal and Dairy Sciences and then his doctorate of veterinary medicine in 1983 at Auburn University. Dr. Golden initially practiced with Dr. Ken Johnson in Lilburn Georgia at Beaver Ruin Road Veterinary Clinic. But he couldn’t stay away from Alabama for long, and soon returned to practice with Dr. Robert Parker at the Ark Animal Clinic in Millbrook, Alabama and Dr. U.D. Sharma at Wares Ferry Road Animal Clinic. In 1985, Dr. Golden opened Carrville Animal Clinic in Tallassee, Alabama and practiced there for six years until the re-location of his practice to Golden Animal Hospital in Montgomery in 1991. In 2007, Dr. Golden opened a second location, Golden Animal Hospital East in the EastChase Shopping Center.
Dr. Golden and his wife, Terri, live in the Pike Road Community and they have four wonderful children. They enjoy attending Eastern Hills Baptist Church. Their family pets include two toy poodles – Lolly and Paco. Both Lolly and Paco ardently compete with one another to garner the family’s loving attention. When asked for his view on his profession and career, Dr. Golden’s words were “I love doing what I do.”
Dr. John Harris, DVM
My name is John Harris. I was originally born in Lincoln, Nebraska but our family has a farm in Opelika, AL. So, Alabama has always been my home. I attended Auburn University and studied Animal Sciences Pre-Vet and attended Auburn’s Veterinary Program and graduated in 2022. I started my journey with Golden Animal Hospital in September of 2022, and I am looking forward to the experiences and friendships yet to come. Growing up on a farm, I was exposed to animals at a very young age so my love and passion for animals has always been with me as far as I can remember. In my free time I enjoy working on the farm, enjoying lake Martin, and hunting. I have on black lab named Bailey and currently live in Montgomery, AL.
